The Novel test uses pressure sensors distributed over a grid to determine where areas of high and low pressure are located within the footwear, or under insoles inserted in shoes. The same subject is used for each product test, wearing the same pair of shoes. In this study only the right foot is shown. Areas of red indicate points of extremely high pressure, and consequently, areas of pain or discomfort. A more even spread of pressure results in better contact with the ground, increasing proprioception (and therefore balance).
