To Mould or Not To Mould?

There are many tough choices in life: chocolate or vanilla? Team Jacob or Team Edward? Ski or surf? The great news is this: deciding whether or not you are going to mould your footbeds doesn't have to be so difficult.

If you are uncertain about moulding your footbeds, just ask yourself a few questions.

  • Do I have high arches?
  • Do I like having a lot of support in my arch area?
  • Is this my first time trying SOLE?

If you are answering 'yes' to any of these questions, then I would suggest trying the footbeds for a few days without heat moulding them. I recommend wearing them for just a few hours for the first day, and really pay attention to how your feet feel. If you feel any tingling, numbness, or soreness, then the arch may be too high. In that case, you can go ahead and heat mould the footbeds. On the other hand, if your feet feel comfortable and supported, then you can continue wearing them without the heat moulding.

There are cases where I would almost always recommend heat moulding:

  • In cycling shoes (the position your lower extremities are in is vastly different from walking, running, and standing and you will likely have the best results if you heat mould while cycling);
  • If you've had a high arch support previously, and it caused discomfort;
  • If your health-care professional has recommended that you heat mould.

If you're still unsure, you can always contact us. We're always happy to answer your questions!
