UK Adopt A Runner winner announced

SOLE is pleased to announce our first ever Adopted Virgin London Marathoner - NICK HEARN!

We were thrilled with the response to the Adoptee scheme, making it a very difficult decision to pick just one runner. However, I'm sure you'll agree when you read Nick's entry below, that he's well-deserving and we are excited to be part of his Virgin London Marathon journey.

Congratulations Nick, we look forward to working with you. Check out Nick's winning entry below:

I would very much like you to adopt me as your London Marathon runner. Here's why:

  • This will be my first marathon, in fact my first major race. 6 months ago, I couldn't run a mile, so this will be a huge achievement for me, and will certainly make interesting and no doubt amusing writing on a blog.
  • My wife is a super runner and has done half marathons already. She has loads of posh gear and I don't!! So I am a serious underdog and need all the help I can get!!! ( We are both running the London Marathon next year.)
  • We have 4 children who want to see their dad do as well as their mum (but still don't actually believe I will really do it). Again, I need all the help I can get!!!!
  • I am running for Help The Hospices. My mum and dad spent years raising money for hospices, before my dad died 10 years ago, and his ashes are buried in the grounds of our local hospice. Earlier this year, my very best friend also died in that very same hospice, a 43 year old brilliant bloke leaving 3 children. As we shared our last whisky together, I promised I'd run the marathon to raise money for the hospice and he bet me I couldn't do it - let me tell you, there's no greater motivation! So your help could also help this wonderful charity, and also help me keep my word!!!!
  • I am a Head teacher of a local Primary School and all of my children and their parents are watching my training. So many of them have already been inspired to run and find out more about running. So your help for me will also help to inspire the next generation of children.
  • I'm 40 next year and your adoption would be a great early birthday present!

Supporting with SOLE,

— Kris Harley
